Dear student,
As a future registered nurse or nurse practitioner, we are asking for your collaboration in participating in a study on your attitudes towards various aspects of patient care. This research has been approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of the University of Valencia, Spain H1529396558647. The questionnaire is ANONYMOUS, there are no right or wrong answers, please answer according to YOUR TRUE OPINION. If you agree to participate in the study you should answer the questions below.
The basic information you should know is as follows:
a) Objective of the study: to assess the attitude that nursing students have towards communication with the patient, in order to delimit the barriers, difficulties and even modulating variables such as emotional intelligence and empathy.
b) Methodology to be used for the study, type of collaboration expected of you and duration of such collaboration: for this study a series of psychological self‐report questionnaires will be applied, oriented to the evaluation of your attitudes towards communication, empathy and emotional intelligence. A self‐administered instrument will be used to collect the information, which will last 15‐20 minutes.
The personal data that you voluntarily provide will be incorporated into a confidential database, whose purpose is to file, manage and analyze them.
C) Alternative preventive, diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures available to those being investigated with this study: given the type of study to be carried out, it is not appropriate to report alternative procedures.
d) Possible discomfort and risks of your participation in the study: There are no risks of participation in this study.
e) Measures to respond to adverse events: in the event of any adverse event in the subjects participating in the investigation, the research team will attend to it personally.
f) Measures to ensure adequate compensation in the event of damage: Completing questionnaires does not potentially lead to any damage.
g) Benefits expected from the research: The starting hypothesis of this research is that evaluating attitudes towards communication, emotional intelligence and empathy of nursing students will favor the physical and psychological well‐being of patients, will influence the improvement of the quality of care, as well as the satisfaction of nursing students with their work environment. In addition to motivating the patient, it will improve adherence to treatment and therefore, the control of the disease in patients and their satisfaction with the care received.
h) Consequences of non‐participation: The researchers are committed to ensuring that there
are no consequences of any kind if you decide not to participate in the study, and the relationship with those who refuse to participate will be as cordial and dedicated as with those who choose to participate.
i) Possibility of withdrawal at any time and consequences: your participation is completely
voluntary, you can withdraw from the project at any time by informing the principal investigator (via email maria.c.gimenez@uv.es). Your withdrawal will not have any negative consequences for you and will be accepted without problems by the research team.
j) Who funded the study? This study has not been funded.
k) Which institution carries out this study? The University of Valencia, Spain is the institution in
charge of carrying out this study.
l) Free to participate: Participants will not receive any financial compensation for their contribution to this study, nor will they incur any costs.
m) Forecast of later use of the results: the results obtained in this study will be used for the development of a doctoral thesis.

Measures to ensure respect for privacy and confidentiality of personal data: Appropriate measures have been taken to guarantee the complete confidentiality of the personal data of the experimental subjects participating in this study, in accordance with the Law on the Protection of Personal Data (Organic Law 3/2018, of December 5, on the Protection of Personal Data and guarantee of digital rights, and Regulation (EU) 2016/679, of the Parliament and Council, of April 27, on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and the free movement of such data for the processing of their personal data in complete confidentiality, as well as the European regulations in force.
Measures to access information relevant to you that arise from the research or the overall results: Know that you have the right to access information generated about you in the study. To do so, you will need to contact the principal investigator. Measures taken because it is an anonymized study: data collection will be done through codes and, in no case, with names and surnames of the participants. In no case will the consent given, where the subject is identified, be combined with the questionnaires used in the study. In the use of the study results for research and/or publication purposes, the due anonymization of personal data will always be respected, so that the research subjects will not be identifiable.

Even if an identifier (token) was used to access this survey, you can be assured that it has not been stored with your responses.
